Heart of Texas Junior Golf Foundation Programs

Saturday Golf Academy

This program provides kids with the chance to learn and play the game of golf on a year round basis.  Forty Saturdays a year are dedicated to teaching kids the game of golf.  This program will provide instruction on: the rules, etiquette, full swing, short game, and on course play.  Kids are given the same access to the golf course as adults are.  This is ground breaking when it comes to golf courses on the weekends.  Kids are welcomed at our facility seven days a week and 365 days a year.

This program is also taught at two different skill levels.  The regular golf academy is for pure beginners as well as kids trying to hone their golf skills.  The advanced academy is for kids who are tournament players and are learning to compete in junior golf at all levels.

Junior High and High School Golf Clinics

The single biggest problem in junior high and high school golf programs is a lack of understanding of the basic rules of golf by the students participating. At virtually every school tournament someone mentions the word “cheating”.  Students for the most part are not being purposely dishonest, but simply breaking the rules because they do not know what the rules are.  These programs are designed o better prepare kids for tournament golf.  They also teach kids the value of integrity through applying the rules of golf to themselves and others.

  • Short game clinic – clinic covers putting, chipping, and pitching as well as drills to help the students develop their skills.
  • Full swing clinic – clinic covers the fundamentals of the full swing as well as a video analysis of each student that the student may take home.
  • How to practice – clinic covers the proper way for students to develop their skills and to build a solid golf game in the shortest amount of time possible as well as the importance of routines and how to develop them.
  • Score-keeping – clinic covers the proper methods of keeping score, helps students understand what their responsibilities are when keeping score, and the rules associated with keeping score.

Snag Golf School Program

Teaching golf in schools is by far the best way to assure that all kids regardless of race, color, creed, or economical background are introduced to the game. This program allows schools to teach golf to kids through PE classes. The classes may be taught on the playground or in a gymnasium.  The Heart of Texas Junior Golf Foundation will provide all the materials and support and the program is free to the schools.

Heart of Texas Junior Golf Tour

The Heart of Texas Junior Golf Tour is a summer tournament program for area youth. It allows juniors to compete during the summer months at Waco’s finest area golf courses. It also provides juniors with the opportunity to play courses that they may not otherwise get to play.  Local businesses sponsor the tour to allow juniors to participate at a very low cost.

League Play

This program is designed to give area youth the opportunity to compete against one another in a team setting.  One of golf’s drawbacks is the lack of a team atmosphere.  League play gives kids the chance to develop lifetime relationships with other young people and the opportunity to build camaraderie through team competition.

Mentor Program

This program is designed to help kids find productive paths in life through golf.  Older students who have gone through many of the foundation’s programs volunteer their time to help mentor kids.  Mentors will play golf with kids, help them with school work, and spend time with them in social settings.

Tutor Program

This program is designed to help students achieve their academic goals.  Older students and adult volunteers are used to help kids achieve success in the classroom.  Our foundation believes that success on the golf course has to be equaled in the classroom.
